Wonderful story. Author obviously knows Vietnam and its people. Much interesting philosophy. Cannot wait for the sequel.
This is a very interesting and original novel that could not have been written by anyone without an intimate knowledge of contemporary Vietnam. Though the story goes back to the American involvement in Vietnam in the 60's and 70's, it shifts forward to today's postwar era in which Americans travel freely to the country and interact with those who were once their enemies. Both a dramatic tale of war and reconciliation, the story centers around a romance between a former soldier and his two lovers--one Vietnamese and one American. A gripping tale that informs as well as entertains.
